Global Educational Tours grew out of the Great Lake Music Camps which was established in 1981 and provided music and travel experiences to over 24,000 middle and high school musicians. Global Educational Tours was formally established in the year 2000, providing educational touring opportunities for school group and, in just five years, has taken groups to a multitude of North American and international destinations.
A sampling of North American tours includes the American Heritage and Washington, D.C. tours. During the American Heritage tour, students visit the Gettysburg Battlegrounds and Monuments where they learn about Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and its impact on the Civil War. Students later participate in a swim party at the Hotel in Baltimore. Subsequent tour days find students at Fort McHenry National Monument, the setting for the words to the Star Spangled Banner, the National Aquarium and attending a Baltimore Orioles baseball game. On the date of the Baltimore trip, students will perform their first concert. The American Heritage tour kicks into high gear with a visit to Philadelphia and the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the U.S. Mint, the Betsy Ross House and the second student performance. The final day of the tour is spent visiting Hershey Park (site of all of the chocolate any student could want) and performing a concert in the park. Each and every stop along the American Heritage tour provides an opportunity to learn about the history of this great Nation and to offer musical tributes at each historic site.
As with the American Heritage tour, the Washington, D.C. tour is packed with visits to historical sites, attendance at local concerts and participation in a joint concert with a local high school. During this tour, students will visit and explore such sites as The Smithsonian, the National Gallery of Art, The Holocaust Museum, Union Station Arlington National Cemetery (where they will participate in the Wreath Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns), and the U.S. Capitol Building, National Cathedral and local monuments.
Internationally, students are offered an exciting variety of tours including a 10 day trip to England and Scotland. In London, a professional guide will take students to a nearly overwhelming number of famous landmarks including Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Palace, the Houses of Parliament and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Students will perform on the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral and will then spend free time in the afternoon exploring London. A full day in Blackpool, the most popular coastal resort in the UK will definitely offer an opportunity for fun and relaxation. After a concert in Gretna Green, students will travel to Glasgow and Highlands where they will have a photo opportunity at Loch Ness and will then move on to Edinburgh with some beautiful stops along the way. Sightseeing with local experts and additional concerts assure that students will return home with memories that will last a lifetime.
High school bands, choirs and orchestras who compete at state level concert competitions at Group IV level difficulty music and receive Division I ratings, are eligible to audition for the highly acclaimed Internal Music Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. Selected groups will perform in such famous halls as The Glazunov Concert Hall of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, Cappella Concert Hall, The Hermitage Museum Theater, Children’s Concert Hall “Carnival,” Sheremetieve Palace Concert Hall and a variety of other exciting venues. These concert halls have hosted world famous composers and musicians such as Mikhail Glinka, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and Johann Strauss, J.R. Participation in this event is an experience that won’t soon be forgotten.
